I’m on a speedboat heading towards my latest vacation destination. As we jump, I try to take a selfie. The shot I want is the waves, the boats, and the islands, but I can’t seem to get the couples kissing out of the background. No matter which direction I turn, there are honeymooners in my camera lens. The boat operators and I are the only people on this ship. Technically, I’m also part of a couple – in fact, a group of single girlfriends heading on holiday to Anguilla. The journey is what I like to call the moon.
Often times we have our dream destinations saved for the day we can go with the person we agreed to spend our lives with. There are the honeymoons and the babymoons, but when can single women celebrate life’s milestones and fulfill their desire for companionship and adventure? This is the moon.
For my last encounter on the moon, I was invited to… Four Seasons Resort & Residences Anguilla Two female friends joined him. Now you’re probably wondering: What’s the difference between this trip and your regular girls’ trip? Well, similar to a honeymoon or babymoon, the first moon is taken to celebrate a major life event. For me, it was my first book. Single women often travel to celebrate others at a bachelorette party, bridal shower, or baby shower. We rarely get our friends to travel and celebrate something that doesn’t fit into the typical schedule.
This is the purpose of We Moon. It’s making a phone call to ask your friends to travel and celebrate an accomplishment with you, just as you would with others. It could be a promotion, a new job, a master’s degree, or a book deal.
When crafting the perfect moon, there are things to keep in mind to make sure the journey goes smoothly. I spoke to Joy Harden Bradford, Ph.D., author of Healing of brotherhood About the best way to complete a destination celebration without any drama.
Book separate rooms.
On a honeymoon or babymoon, the whole point is to spend more time together. On the Moon, there is a balance between time together and time alone. That’s why Dr. Bradford recommends separate rooms if your budget allows. On this trip to Anguilla, we were staying in a villa, so we all had our own room and bathroom. It was perfect for early risers who wanted to read a book quietly on their balcony, or late sleepers who wanted to lie down and order room service. Whatever your decision is, you should talk about it beforehand.
