Gold Coast Marathon

Hafto Strintzos broke the national record to win the Gold Coast Marathon in 2:06:20, also setting a course record and becoming the first Australian to win since Lee Troup in 2006. Japanese duo Hidekazu Hijikata and Genya Ozaki rounded out the podium.

Ethiopia’s Almaz Kebebe won in a time of 2:24:53, ahead of Antonina Kwambai of Kenya and Kaede Kawamura of Japan, while Abigail Nordberg returned to Australia in a time of 2:30:22 to take fourth place overall.

Japanese Shompei Tomita won the half marathon in a time of 60:52, ahead of Ed Marks as the first Australian in his first appearance in a time of 60:57, while Kazuto Kawabata came in third place. Izzy Pat Doyle won in a time of 67:29, Rino Goshima of Japan was second in 68:50, and Kaitlyn Scott was third in 69:08.

Liam Cashin won the 10km race in 29:28 ahead of Callum Davies and defending champion Matt Buckel. Natalie Rule won in 32:57, ahead of Georgia Hansen and Amy Robinson.

Gold Coast Marathon results

Pre-Diamond League Classic

Cam Myers won the Pre Classic Bowerman Mile in a national record of 3:46.06, becoming the first Australian to win the race and also the third ever to win the Wanamaker Mile as well in the same year. In the international mile, Olly Hoare ran 3:55.35.

Nikki Hiltz was the surprise winner of the women’s mile in the world lead with a time of 4:17.49 minutes, ahead of Dorcus Iwi and Faith Kipyegon, while Jess Hall was fifth in 4:18.03 minutes.

Daniel Williams ran the 800 meters in 1:45.42, and Brandon Miller won in 1:43.68 over Cooper Lutkenhaus. Hayley Kitching ran 1:59.56 in the 800 meters.

Key Robinson ran 8:12.16 in the 2-mile race, which Parker Wolfe won in 8:10.13.
