We have some more exciting updates to share today. We’re making history, and we’d love for you to be a part of it. But first, a step back.
For more than two decades, I’ve been passionate about helping people eat better. That’s why, together with our team, we’ve turned Diet Doctor into the best and most trusted low-carb resource on the internet.
Personally, I’m still a big fan of the low-carb approach. I’ve been eating lower carbs for two decades and I still do. However, we realize that not everyone thrives on low-carb eating, and even when they do, one thing is constant – satiety.
We’re learning more about low carb and why it works when it does.
For example, in all the graduate studies where low-carb showed superior effectiveness, people were also eating more protein (which increases satiety).
In general, when people reduce their carb intake, they tend to start eating more real foods and more protein…so that’s usually great!
Another major factor is that when most carbohydrates are eliminated, people also stop eating ultra-processed foods that contain concentrated carbohydrates and fats. together.
These foods tend to be the most palatable foods in the world, the foods we can’t stop eating, for example, ice cream, donuts, potato chips, and a long list of other offending foods.
Eliminating these foods – along with other ultra-processed carbohydrate foods – also increases satiety a lot!
Low-carb diets are also easy to explain in two words: “avoid carbohydrates.” simplicity!
When people start a strict low-carb diet, they tend to lose 2-3 pounds of water weight in the first few days. This is due to the loss of muscle and liver glycogen stores and associated water. They’re also great for early motivation (“It’s working!”). No other diet has this superpower.
However, just because low-carb diets tend to work well, doesn’t mean they’re perfect.
Some common low-carb food items do not cause high satiety. Examples include bulletproof coffee, fat bombs, and, in general, adding too much butter to many other foods.
How do you know how to maximize the effectiveness of your low-carb diet? This has been hard to figure out, but we’re about to simplify it.
