Toxic Water – Why Water Purification is a Must

Natural Health 365 Podcast(Natural Health365Did you know that about 70 percent of the Earth’s surface is covered by water – however, Fresh water represents only about 2.5 percent, and in many cases the water is severely polluted and unfit for consumption.

It’s a shocking (but true) statistic: more than 3,000 children die – every day around the world – from drinking contaminated drinking water. According to the World Health Organization, 3.2 million children – under the age of five in developing countries – die every year, as a result of unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation.

Don’t ignore the dangers of toxic drinking water

These alarming statistics demonstrate a lack of interest, knowledge, or both among what we call public health experts, and no one in their right mind should expect this trend to change for the better, any time soon.

So, today, on the NaturalHealth365 Podcast, we’re issuing an urgent warning (and a solution) to everyone concerned about the dangers in our current drinking water supply. Industry waste, fluoride, pharmaceutical drug residues as well as many other unwanted toxic by-products clearly make it necessary to purify all the water we use – on a daily basis.

If you’re concerned about your drinking water and looking for a solution…this podcast is perfect for you. So, let’s get started.

Podcast highlights include:

  • What makes Berkey a powerful water filter?
  • What type of people buy and use Berkey water systems?
  • Some people think Berkey is too expensive. How does the cost really compare to other filtration systems?
  • What is the lifespan of Black Berkey purification elements?
  • Is barki only good for small families or can larger groups benefit from it?
  • What types of contaminants are removed by the Berkey system?
  • Is there anything Berkey won’t remove?

How does Berkey purify water?

Water filtration is a complex science, and Berkey tries to use common terminology whenever possible so that the explanation is more understandable.

Several well-known methods are used to produce Black Berkey® purification elements. These methods are combined and blended to produce a unique filtration process the likes of which the world has never seen before. The first line of defense is that Berkey’s purification elements consist of a combination of over six different types of media, all built into an extremely compact matrix containing millions of microscopic pores.

These pores are so fine that they produce what Berkey refers to as a torturous pathway through which pathogenic bacteria, cysts, parasites, sediments, and sedimentary minerals must travel. These pathways are so small that these contaminants cannot actually pass through and become trapped causing them to be removed from your drinking water, this is known as microfiltration.

Second, the media formulation uses unique adsorption and absorption properties. Adsorption creates an ionic barrier similar to surface tension. This barrier is well-suited for microporous water filters because it effectively allows small pores to block out water contaminants smaller than the pore size itself.

This blocking process is how the Berkey water filter is able to remove submicron viruses that other water filter brands cannot do without the use of unsavory chemicals like iodine or chlorine.

Next, heavy metal ions (mineral particles) are extracted from the water through an ion exchange process where they are attracted and transformed by electrostatic bonding to the media. Finally, due to the nature of gravity flow, it can take several minutes for water molecules to pass through the filter elements while these water molecules pass through other filtration systems in only milliseconds.

This longer contact time between water molecules and filtration media provides much greater removal rates of harmful water contaminants that cannot be obtained through traditional pressurized water filtration methods.

As you can see, the Berkey water purifier incorporates several different scientific methods to produce drinking water of unparalleled quality. Berkey water filters are able to do all of this while keeping it simple.

All you, as a Berkey user, are asked to do is simply pour water into the unit. All of the above processes will continue to operate behind the scenes for many years to come. This long filter life allows you to produce pure drinking water for pennies per gallon.
