Valentine’s Day It’s a day when many of us take the opportunity to tell our loved ones how much we appreciate them. Whether it’s your significant other, the ladies in your Galentina group, or your kids, chocolate covered berries are a great way to do just that.
It’s a healthy and delicious treat any time of the year!
Chocolate covered fruit is a favorite in our house. I will do this Dark chocolate fondue On certain occasions to dip the fruit and Homemade marshmallows While chocolate-covered fruit can be a healthy treat, it can sometimes be difficult to activate.
If you’ve made chocolate-covered berries or any other fruit yourself, you’ve probably encountered this. Shiny chocolate that falls off and looks unappetizing. Chocolate covered berries have the same flavor, but better.
I make them into some cute heart molds that are perfect for Valentine’s Day. You can really use any silicone molds you want although they do make chunky shapes. Instead of just dipping the berries in chocolate, we prepare the berry filling first. It is naturally sweetened with maple syrup and thickened Chia seeds.
Research shows that maple syrup is not just sugar, but a unique collection of minerals, antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. Chia seeds are a great source of fiber, but they have a lot of other benefits. These include supporting healthy blood pressure and digestion, reducing inflammation, and even helping improve symptoms of anxiety and depression by nourishing the gut.
Then there are the juicy berries that contain vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants. Chocolate covered berries are naturally colorful, fun to decorate, and great for any little helper in the kitchen. My little ones had no problem helping make these. Plus, they were gone that afternoon!
You can use a different template, but I chose a heart template for these templates. If you don’t have good Silicone mold On hand, then you can also make it without one. Simply scoop little mounds of jam onto parchment paper, freeze, then dip in chocolate to make rustic bites.
Start with a smaller amount of maple syrup, taste, and then adjust to your preference. I prefer to be more on the sour side. They store well in the refrigerator for up to a week. You can also keep it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one month. Fair warning: if you want any leftovers for the freezer you may need to double the amount!
Here’s how to prepare these delicious, festive, and nutritious chocolate-covered berry bites.

It tastes like chocolate covered raspberry jam…but better.
In a bowl, mash the berries with the maple syrup, chia seeds and vanilla until thick and jam-like. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes until the chia thickens.
Pour mixture evenly into 10 large 2-inch silicone cavities, filling them almost to the top and smoothing the surface.
Freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight until completely firm.
Gently melt dark chocolate and coconut oil until smooth.
Remove the frozen hearts from the molds and dip them in the chocolate until completely coated.
Sprinkle with crushed dried berries if desired.
Place it on a baking tray covered with parchment paper and place it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes until it hardens.
Serve straight from the freezer or allow to soften slightly before eating.
