The ultimate list of mineral benefits and how to use them

If you’ve been sitting here long enough, you probably know by now how much I love magnesium, sodium, and minerals in general. I noticed huge The difference in my health And energy levels after priority was given to minerals. And I’ve heard from many of you how minerals have changed your health too.

This article is a collection of articles and podcast episodes I’ve done over the past 15 years about the benefits of minerals. It covers what it is, why we need it, the side effects of not getting enough, and how to improve mineral levels. This is your comprehensive resource guide and reference when it comes to all the minerals found in Wellness Mama.

First, magnesium and sodium!

Benefits of magnesium and sodium

Magnesium is one of my favorite things to talk about, but salt is probably a close second. Most of us suffer from magnesium deficiency due to traditional agricultural practices and modern life. Things like stress, especially low-grade chronic stress, deplete minerals like magnesium. Sugar is another major cause of magnesium depletion.

Sodium is another important mineral for hydration, energy, brain health, and more. Unfortunately it has been demonized in the past few decades. Real salt has largely been replaced by refined salt in highly processed foods.

Even people with certain health problems, such as high blood pressure, can still benefit from more salt. Make sure to check with your natural healthcare practitioner before adding more salt, but there’s some really good information here and from the podcast guests below about the benefits of salt.

Fulvic and humic acids

Although these are not technically electrolytes, I have grouped them into this article because they provide trace minerals. Many years ago, these substances were naturally rich in our soil after being broken down by plants and transformed by microbes. It naturally contains trace minerals, amino acids, organic acids, carbon complexes, and unique compounds not found in modern foods.

They are the connectors and carriers that help our system work better. I like to think of fulvic and humic acids as a translator between the food we eat and our cells. Like spark plugs to absorb nutrients. The following articles talk about its benefits, how I use it, and how to obtain it.

DIY magnesium and salt recipes

We return to magnesium and sodium in this section. While there is a lot of information about the health benefits of these electrolytes in these articles, they are more focused on the practical side. You’ll find recipes for bath salts, detox baths, topical magnesium, scrubs, and more.

Applying sodium and magnesium topically is a great way to get more of their benefits! Plus, it’s a relaxing way to pamper yourself a little. Sometimes I will make them for myself and my daughters. I often make extra to give to family and friends as gifts.

Recipes rich in minerals to eat

Technically, any of the nutrient-dense recipes on my site that are made from whole foods contain some minerals. Since modern food (even organic) is much lower in nutrients and minerals than it was a hundred years ago, I like to take a targeted approach.

Yes, I supplement as needed, but I love making mineral-rich recipes too. It’s delicious and the kids love it too!

I love talking about minerals so much that I made an entire series dedicated to them. This series focuses specifically on how minerals support cellular health and energy. Magnesium, potassium and sodium work together to nourish every cell in the body. That’s why, when we don’t have enough, the side effects can be widespread.

Metal Mastery Podcast Series

In addition to the above articles (which are more of a Cliff Notes version), I’ve recorded an entire metal podcast series. These go deeper and delve into the science and practical uses of minerals.

I cover the big three: sodium, magnesium, and potassium. Then I touch on the benefits of fulvic and humic acids for cell health. Finally, the series ends with an overview of how they all work together and why we need optimal levels for them all.
